Vineyard Progress
Here are pics of our progress on clearing and planting the vineyard site.
Getting very close. Look at the color and size of these grapes compared to just 1 week ago. Exciting stuff. I feel the pressure to build the winery equipment I need. First order of business will be the press. There are some fine commercially available ones, but I am cheap and poor, so I have
Wow, the test grape clusters I left are looking good. Few signs of bugs or disease. I may have enough grapes to make 1 glass of wine! [Show thumbnails]
Well, I did not have much time to spend in the vineyard this Memorial Day. We are working on getting the cabin back up to snuff. She has been neglected and has needed some cosmetic fixes for years. Cleaning the logs and putting a new Oak PermaChink stain on will bring her back to her
Wow again. Words fail me when trying to describe the growth I have seen in just two weeks! Leaf and bud growth almost everywhere.Look at those pics. The Nortons have some better leaf growth, but very few buds. The Chambourcin and Chardonnel are just going nuts, with big leaf growth and clusters galore. Almost everything
Wow, it’s been only 1 week since the vines started to leaf bud. This is the weekend I planted the new 10 Cab Franc vines, but the older vines stole the show. So much leafing has occurred in only 1 week and many of the Chambourcin and Chardonnel vines have clusters! Norton # 6 is
The vines are just beginning to spring back to life. All vines have some sign of leaf breakout, and the Chambourcin leads the way as always. The Nortons have smaller signs of life except #6 which is the one I have assumed has died. My rain gauge says 1.28 inch rainfall for the month. [Show
Birthday weekend at the cabin. Another birthday already – time flies. We took a long 4-day weekend and spent most of it working outside in the vineyard and around the yard. Got some good tilling done in the new Cab Franc row. We finished the driveway entrance by planting some nice ground cover plants in
Finished up the bathroom this weekend. Had to buy a new drain piece to stop the leak. Since this was an engineered vessel sink made from a standard copper basin, a little engineering was required to make it all watertight. E asked me to put some shelves in the coat closet, so got that done
Spent just a part of the weekend playing in the vineyard. I swallowed hard and went ahead and pruned the vines. My Norton’s needed hardly any pruning – mostly just nicking off the unnecessary buds. It is suggested that each year you prune, you weigh the cuttings to get an idea of that year’s growth.
E & I had a nice weekend at the cabin. It’s still pretty cold out and E wanted some inside work done. So we remodeled the bathroom. We painted the vanity, I made a beautiful pine counter top, added a copper vessel sink and changed out the mirror. She is happy with it, so that
